An old turning assessment activity designed to be used with the old NVQ courses. I still use this when introducing students to the lathe as it helps them to think about the functions and risks. Please cut and paste any of the information and drawings in the handout and use them as you feel best reflects your course.

An 8 page activity that shows the methods of reading micrometers and vernier callipers for design, technology, and engineering applications. Ideal as a cover activity during teacher absence. Teaches basic theory behind the measuring tools, the methods of reading them and the sheet includes activities for the student to practice reading the scales if there are no measuring tools available in class. Feel free to cut, chop, paste and change the sheet to meet your needs.

A 22 slide presentation on the subject of linear measurement. The content focuses on the engineering/technology/design side of measurement but will be appropriate for students of all areas that simply need a lesson in measuring. Ideal for a cover lesson if a teacher is away from work. Covers many types of measuring from using rulers through to micrometers, vernier callipers and laser measurement. Feel free to cut, chop and paste any of the slides and any of the content/design to suit your own purposes.

6 presentations and a document that cover the importance of renewables energy development. Explained as an introductory pack of presentations which are designed to inform a whole range of ages. Ideal for a cover teacher or as an introduction to the world of renewables. Useful in all areas from 8 to 19 (Good for BTEC, City and Guilds, GCSE subjects and more) The solar power document is designed to be used for revision but could be repurposed to create activities and quizzes. All of the presentations are easily editable and could be used for a wide variety of lessons. Feel free to cut, chop and paste anything you like from the slides or document in order to meet your personal needs.

Presentation teaching information about battery technology, the materials involved and the reactions that take place in order to produce a charge. Suitable as an introduction to the subject, or as a cover teacher presentation - it's very easy to produce some questions or a short test on the subject to go with the slides. Feel free to repurpose anything in the slides to suit your own needs.

A presentation and hand-out that describes the use of a range of keys, keyways, taper lock bushes and frictional turning devices. Used for students studying on BTEC and City & Guilds engineering courses, in 45 minute to 1 hour sessions, but could also be used for automotive, aerospace etc... Resources have been made to make it easy to customise. I removed all of my personal things from the slides and hand-out so changing the format of activities etc. is easy. Feel free to cut and paste anything you want from the resources.

A Powerpoint quiz on the subject of Casting and Forging. Used with engineering, DT and some science (Chemistry) subjects. Can be easily modified to change the questions. Fairly foundation level questions. Please feel free to change and modify anything you wish in order to meet your needs.

A SI Units reference sheet. I issue to physics and engineering students to keep as a handy reference at the front of their folders. Easy to read, feel free to copy and paste anything featured here.

A worksheet introducing students to measurement using engineering tools. First section describes the methods used to measure using the micrometer, the second section describes measurement using the vernier scale. Both sections are complete with some sample activities to test the students knowledge. I would use the worksheet along with the actual measuring tools so the students can handle the equipment as they work, this will reinforce their learning. It will be helpful for a teacher who already knows how to read both scales to teach as it will require some explanation to support the work.

A revision resource showing the definitions of many terms in Health and Safety covered by BTEC and City and Guilds courses. I put them onto a PPT for ease of access but I wouldn't deliver the powerpoint to a class without significant changes. I also have these slides on our Moodle system for the students to use as a pure revision resource, and also as a source of information they can easily use when producing written work.

Manual handling information and lesson resources. Produced for low level engineering students, includes information and questions relating to manual handling in the workshop environment. Please feel free to cut, past and chop anything you want for your own purposes.

Starter activities used to teach low level (1 and 2) engineering students about the different signs in use. I found it best to have a workshop available with all appropriate signs being used, for the students to use as research. Feel free to cut, paste and chop anything to suit your own needs.

Handout that would be useful for a cover teacher to teach students how to produce threaded holes and bar in a workshop setting. If workshop facilities are not available, students can use the questions at the end of the document to revise for theory based exams. Abrasive wheels information. Delivered some time ago, but information is still relevant under law and useful from a teaching standpoint. May need to be adjusted to suit your individual style of teaching and the area of engineering that you teach. Feel free to cut, paste and change whatever you wish in order to suit yourself.

Information slides that explain how modes of fracture can propagate through a material. Used for information only, I normally take the information from slides as and when I need it. I wouldn't use this to present to a class without putting your own spin on it. Please feel free to cut, paste and chop any part of the resources as you see fit.

PPT presentation about manual handling methods focused towards engineering activities. There are no additional files as the ones I used are freely available on the HSE website, though there are several single/group work activities that can inspire students to put thought into what they are doing. Used to teach students in preparation for the City & Guilds level 3 in engineering externally assessed exam, with excellent results in previous years. Though it has been made with engineering students in mind, the nature of the subject make it ideal for pretty much any subject. As with all other health and Safety subjects, don't forget to check out the HSE website - that place really has helped me to teach health and safety over the years.
